Anyone hungry?

For some time now, those of us in Franklinville going by the name of ‘Living Bones’ have been meeting, reading, thinking, discussing, and…snacking. The conclusion we’ve come to is that, as Presbyterians, we like to eat. And given the Presbyterian history of potlucking and fellowshipping around food, this really comes as no surprise.

Given this truth, we have decided to sit upon this as our identifying feature of Franklinville Presbyterian Church. We will seek to be known in this community, through action and offering, as the church that ‘feeds body and soul.’ We recognize that we are a group, a community that is hungry – our bodies are hungry, and our spirits are hungry. We yearn to be fed, on all levels. We here at Franklinville Presbyterian will seek to provide a place where those who are hungry may eat their fill.

There is Biblical truth in this, as well. Jesus on not just one occasion, but twice fed a vast multitude, giving them fish and bread to eat. More so, we read in one of Matthew’s accounts that he not only fed them physically, he taught and healed, feeding them spiritually, granting wholeness to their souls (Matthew 15: 29-38).

We seek to imitate our Lord in this time and place, and are excited to realize ways in which we might do this more and more – not just within our own fellowship, but for all in our community. All are invited to join in this feast, and all who seek to help serve are welcome.

Randolph Update

The Transformation Catalyst Team at Randolph has been meeting almost weekly. The team is exploring a number of no/low cost outreach activities into the community. The list being explored includes:
Having Kids Klub participate in a worship service and inviting their families to attend.
Holding an ecumenical worship service and picnic in the village park this summer.
Offering worship service for residents of the Children’s Home.
Affiliating with Love INC for coordination of community services.
Forming a Youth Outreach Team.
Inviting members of the former Westminster Lakewood church to visit RUPC.
Taking steps to make RUPC the “Friendliest Church In The Presbytery”.
Seeking “bright eyed” folks to join our team.
Arranging to have the Poet Of Transformation (Janita Byrars) visit us.
Hosting a Preparedness workshop in the spring, inviting the community to attend and possibly featuring a meal based on survival foods.
Reviewing Twelve Key Principles For Balanced Church Transformation for possible guidance.

This post is the “grand opening” of the blog site created by webmaster Brad Hahn for use by churches involved in transformation work.

The initial purpose of the site is to provide a convenient means for sharing among the 5 transformation teams that participated in the PBY’s October Paul Nixon workshop. As other churches become involved in transformation work we hope that they too will use this site for sharing.
